Before you separate…

  1. What does the Bible say about divorce? “And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery;. . .” Matthew 19: 9a NKJV.
  2. Sexual immorality is the only reason for divorce in the Bible. But if a spouse or children are being abused, there is no reason to stick around. The Bible does not prevent one from being “separated” out of trouble. Finding a safe place is important.

Assuming that you have are already sought counseling before separation…

Seeking counseling as the first step in healing.

  1. Divorce Care is a great resource for digesting all the ramifications that separation and divorce can bring. Resources found on the Internet.
  2. If you find yourself fleeing from your home, the first thing is to have a place of shelter. There are women’s shelters and a few that accommodate men as well. Contact social services or local church.
  3. Make arrangements for police protection as necessary.

Jesus tells us in Luke 4:18, 21 that He heals the brokenhearted. Only looking to Jesus for protection, provision and help will bring complete healing.
